No one likes to think about what happens when things go wrong. But when they do, Jeff Johnston is someone you want in your corner. With more than 30 years of providing advisory services in forensic accounting, litigation support, insurance recovery, and business valuations, Jeff is known for helping parties make informed decisions in a fair and timely way.
In Jeff’s line of work, this might mean assisting in complicated business disputes, helping prepare an insurance claim, preparing business valuations, or advising a company or counsel on issues related to damages. He has conducted complex damage studies that involve everything from lost sales and profits to valuing a business, and has testified as an expert witness in court and arbitration. At PWB, Jeff works with attorneys, estate planners, CFOs, risk managers, and business owners across a range of industries, including manufacturing, financial services, distributions, healthcare, hospitality, construction, real estate, energy, and agriculture. No two engagements are alike. And that’s exactly what keeps Jeff coming back to the office each day.
Shortly after earning his undergraduate accounting degree at the University of Minnesota, Jeff earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. Throughout his career he’s directed hundreds of forensic accounting, litigation support, insurance recovery, and business valuation engagements for public and private companies. Jeff’s résumé also includes serving as the chief financial officer of a private investment firm where he had experience with acquisition analysis, financing, workouts, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation. All in all, Jeff’s varied career has equipped him with a unique blend of finance, accounting, business valuation, taxation, and business law expertise.
Jeff has served as an adjunct professor at Metropolitan State University and as the treasurer of a nonprofit organization. He currently serves as treasurer of the Corporate Counsel Section of the Hennepin County Bar Association, and is an active member of the Minnesota Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, and the Minnesota State Bar Association.
